Asking Reiki to Help with My Posture

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

Pain in back; Reiki helps posture

I am someone who has always struggled with my posture.

Now that I'm older and more educated on my own body, I know that a big part of the reason for this is due to my Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). Even when I was around 9 or 10 and going to the chiropractor twice a week, he would always ask me how my posture was doing. I was a swimmer and began going to the chiropractor at a young age due to severe shoulder and shoulder blade pain. He told me that having better posture alongside going to the chiropractor and engaging in daily shoulder-specific exercises and stretches would help me to get better and eradicate the pain. (Spoiler alert: it only made the issues worse.)

After my concussion in 2020, having good posture was definitely not in my list of top 100 most important aspects of life to focus on. I struggled with basic activities of daily living (ADLs for all my medical peeps out there). I know that my concussion itself also affected my neck, back, spine, and posture. My concussion greatly impacted my vagus nerve and how it functions... but that's a whole different rabbit hole that will not be discussed today.

Over the past 2 or 3 months, I have put extra focus on trying to have better posture. Since my shoulders easily over-rotate, I always feel like I'm doing it wrong (and I mostly am). My pelvic tilt and protruding tailbone also impact my posture.

Something I thought of a couple weeks ago was asking Reiki to help me with my posture. For as long as I have been a Reiki practitioner, I somehow never thought about this! One of the main visualizations I received while first sending myself Reiki to target my posture was a visualization of a string pulling the middle of my back backward, while an energy or wind was moderately pushing my shoulders forward (due to my shoulders over-rotating). While I was giving myself Reiki, I noticed that it was much easier to achieve and maintain good posture -- it even felt like I wasn't doing it some of the time, but rather the energy of Reiki itself was providing my back with support!

Now that is has been only a couple of weeks, I can already see and feel improvements in my back. Now I need to focus more on the posture of my neck. I have researched different vagus nerve exercises which I want to become more consistent with as well, and I will hopefully remember to make a blog post about my experience with them sometime in the future.

Much love and kindness,

Brittney xx
